Synopsis

Twins Carys and Andreus were never destined to rule Eden. With their older brother next in line to inherit the throne, the future of the kingdom was secure. When Eden’s king and crown prince were killed by assassins, Eden desperately needs a monarch, but the line of succession is no longer clear. With a ruling council scheming to gain power, Carys and Andreus are faced with only one option—to take part in a Trial of Succession that will determine which one of them is worthy of ruling the kingdom.

Thoughts

Drastically disappointed with this book. It is not how I imagined the story. It started off quite intriguing. It list possible theories for the death of the twins' father and older brother. At first, it seemed as though the Queen played a part in the deaths so she could rule. But as the story progressed, her role in the plot becomes unclear.

The twins were frustrating. There wasn't any loyalty between the siblings and the character development was lacking. The internal struggles were non-existent. I was not invested in the story. It could be more interesting if the plot was developed better.
