Top Ten Tuesday | Rainy Day Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

What are some great rainy day reads? Instead of listing books, I thought I will list the type of stories I like to read on a rainy day.

1. I like a short story to pass the time (for just a few hours).
2. I like a short cute contemporary romance that makes me gush.
3. I like a gripping world building story that makes me jump in my seat and burst in a wide smile.
4. I like a story that makes me laugh uproariously with tears streaming down my face.
5. I like a story that makes me cry for hours unable to dry my tears.
6. I like a story that makes me immediately dial up a fellow reader and try to get them to read with me.
7. I like a story that completely exceeds all expectations.
8. I like a story that makes me sigh.
9. I like a story that is outside the box.
10. I like a story not read by many.

Happy reading.

Top Ten Tuesday | Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.  This week's topic: Outrageous Things I’ve Done for the Love of Books (i.e. skip meals, camped outside a bookstore, broke up with someone because they don’t like books, etc...)

Hahaha... yeah these are true situations...

1. I've requested vacation time months in advance in anticipation for a book release (so I can stay home for the week and consume the book).
2. I've called out sick the next day when I couldn't put down a book the night before.
3. I've read 48 hours straight on a weekend with only a few minutes of rest in between bathroom and water breaks.
4. I've read pages while waiting at a stop light.
5. I'd buy an audiobook just to play it during my shower then switch back to the book when I get out of the shower.
6. I've gone to work the next day without sleeping only to read again the following night and attend work sleepless the following day.
7. I'd read a book at a very fast pace just to finish the book before everyone else in case of fans spoiling it on social media.
8. I would stay off social media the week before and during an anticipated book release.
9. If a friend disagrees with the overall opinion of a book, we would not speak with each other for weeks.
10. If a friend likes the movie over the book, we would not speak to each other for weeks.

Becoming by Michelle Obama

Becoming by Michelle Obama
Published November 13th 2018 by Crown Books
Genres: Autobiography, Nonfiction, Memoir
Page: 426
Rating: 5
of 5 stars
Review by: Tina

In this memoir, Michelle gets personal, honest, intimate. Through her eyes, you see her beginnings, her passion for more than corporate law, and falling in love with Barack.

She talks about facing adversity, speaking for the black communities, fighting for women equality, and her struggles with pregnancy.

She keeps boundaries that helps her in seeking strength and sanity. Her choice to leave politics to Barack and battle against Food and Beverage businesses that serve sugar and soft drinks in school lunches to promoting fresh food and eating right campaign to building a vegetable garden at the White House.

She speaks about the sacrifices Barack made for his country and family. Outside counseling that helped nurture their relationship. Their families and backgrounds that shaped who they are and their discontent and frustration for bigger dreams and a better world. Seeing Malia and Sasha going up in the White House.

This last line Michelle says ending the Barack administration really touched me. "It has to hurt that he entered fatherhood as a politician and so close to having more freedom just when his daughters are about to enter college. But we have to let them go, the world is theirs, as it should be."

Inspirational and heart felt.

Series Review | The Rot & Ruin series by Jonathan Maberry

Have you heard of humane peaceful killing? What about respecting a life by making a kill that is noble so it will protect your heart and soul?

The Rot & Ruin series show a completely different take on zombies. The depth, the warmth, the humanizing of zoms, I've never read such a fresh perspective of seeing the zombies as loved ones instead of the living dead.
The story is told through the eyes of a naïve sheltered teenage boy, born into a zombie infested world, and knows nothing of the world prior to First Night.

Benny, Nix, Chong, Morgie, Lilah, and Riot faces tough decisions during their growth and training. They quickly lose their innocence as their soul is chipped away little by little.

What a compelling journey. An epic story of growth, apprenticeship, human heart, and love. By far, my new favorite series of the year. If the world ever end up like the Rot & Ruin, I hope there will be people like these six who will defend it and breathe life to it.

Warrior smart.

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

There were books I set aside and some I started but fell for that nasty bug called distraction and haven't picked up again since...

Which books did you mean to read in 2018 but didn't?
